Hello, this is Eri!
In Toki City, Gifu Prefecture — where Miyake Ceramics is located — there’s a rather unique roadside station (michi-no-eki) called “Donburi Hall”.
As its name implies, the roof is shaped like an inverted donburi (rice bowl), making it striking and easy to spot even from a distance!
This place is a hub to fully enjoy Mino ware culture: there’s a direct sales area for Mino ceramics, exhibition galleries, and even pottery workshops (centered around ¥2,500, by reservation). You can actually make your own donburi bowl and take it home — how great is that? ✨
Also, they sell soft serve ice cream served in adorable donburi bowls — and when you finish, you can take the bowl home!
If you’re touring the “town of Mino ware,” make sure you include Donburi Hall in your itinerary.
Speaking of “donburi,” lunch today was a seafood three-variety wasabi saltkoji marinated donburi.
Just look at that glossy shine!
Donburi (rice bowls) feels like Japan’s soul food, don’t you think? Gyudon, katsudon, oyakodon, tendon … there are so many variations, but for me, **seafood donburi** wins every time.
At Miyake Ceramics, we also carry many sizes and designs of donburi bowls.
Choosing the right bowl to match the dish is such a joy. Having a meal served in a Mino ware donburi makes it feel just a bit more special. ✨
